An analog clock is a clock that shows time with moving hands on a numbered circle. It has an hour hand and a minute hand.
The short hand shows the hour. The long hand shows the minutes.
The hour hand is shorter and moves slowly. The minute hand is longer and moves around the clock face more quickly.
If the short hand is between two numbers, the time is between those two hours. Always start by reading the hour hand first.
The numbers 1 through 12 on the clock face also stand for minutes. Each number equals 5 minutes when counted around the clock.
Count by fives around the clock to find the minutes: 5, 10, 15, 20… all the way to 60.
To match an analog clock to a written time, read the hour hand first, then the minute hand, and put them together.
Always check the position of both hands. The hour hand is shorter and points to the hour, and the minute hand is longer and points to the minutes.
