EE.1 Learn to strengthen writing through feedback

Loading questions...

What does it mean to strengthen writing?

Strengthening writing means making your ideas clearer, better organized, and more interesting for the reader. Writers do this by listening to feedback and improving their work.

Examples:
  • Adding more details to explain an idea
  • Fixing a sentence so it is easier to understand
  • Using stronger words instead of simple ones
Note

Writing is not finished the first time. Good writers review their work and make changes to make it stronger.

What is feedback?

Feedback is advice or suggestions from others about your writing. It helps you see what you are doing well and what you can improve.

Examples of feedback:
  • β€œThis part is very clear.”
  • β€œCan you add more detail about what happened first?”
  • β€œTry using a different word here to make your meaning stronger.”
Note

Feedback is meant to help you, not to hurt your feelings. It shows you how to make your writing better.

How do you listen to feedback?

Listening to feedback means paying attention, thinking carefully about the suggestions, and deciding how to use them in your writing.

Steps:
  • Read or listen to the feedback carefully.
  • Ask questions if something is not clear.
  • Think: Does this suggestion make my writing stronger?
Note

You do not have to use every suggestion, but you should always think about each one before deciding.

Making changes after feedback

After you get feedback, go back to your writing and make changes. These changes help your writing become clearer, more detailed, and more enjoyable to read.

Examples of changes:
  • Adding more sentences to explain a main idea
  • Fixing spelling, punctuation, or grammar mistakes
  • Rearranging sentences so they are in the right order
Note

Small changes can make a big difference. Revising is part of becoming a strong writer.

Why is feedback important?

Feedback helps you grow as a writer. It shows you what you do well and what you can improve so your writing is clear and effective for readers.

Examples:
  • A teacher suggests adding more detail to a paragraph.
  • A classmate says your ending is strong and interesting.
  • You realize a sentence is confusing and decide to rewrite it.
Note

Feedback is like a tool. When you use it, your writing becomes sharper and stronger. Aligned with the USA Common Core Standard.
