What are the months of the year?

Months of the year are the twelve named parts that make up a calendar year. Each month helps us measure time and organize events.

Examples:
  • January
  • April
  • December
Note

A full year always has 12 months, starting with January and ending with December.

How to identify the months

Each month has a specific name, an order in the year, and a certain number of days.

Steps:
  • Read the calendar to see the name of the month.
  • Notice which number month it is in the year (for example, March is the 3rd month).
  • Check how many days it has (some months have 30 days, some 31, and February has 28 or 29).
Note

The order of the months never changes. Knowing the sequence helps you read and use calendars correctly.

The 12 months in order

Here is the list of all 12 months in the order they appear in every year, with the number of days in each month:

Month List:
  • 1 – January (31 days)
  • 2 – February (28 days, 29 in leap years)
  • 3 – March (31 days)
  • 4 – April (30 days)
  • 5 – May (31 days)
  • 6 – June (30 days)
  • 7 – July (31 days)
  • 8 – August (31 days)
  • 9 – September (30 days)
  • 10 – October (31 days)
  • 11 – November (30 days)
  • 12 – December (31 days)
Note

Memorizing the order of the months and the number of days helps you plan events, understand calendars, and track the passage of time accurately.

Using months in real life

We use months to plan schedules, celebrate events, and understand the seasons of the year.

Examples:
  • β€œMy birthday is in July.”
  • β€œSchool starts in August or September.”
  • β€œDecember is the last month of the year.”
Note

When writing dates, always start with the month, then the day, and finally the year (example: March 15, 2025).
