Q.1 Complete the sentences with sight words

Loading questions...

What are sight words?

Sight words are words that appear often in reading and writing. Many of them do not follow regular spelling rules, so we learn to recognize them by sight instead of sounding them out.

Examples:
  • the
  • was
  • said
  • of
Note

Think of sight words as β€œmemory words.” Practice seeing them, saying them, and writing them until you know them instantly.

Why are sight words important?

Sight words help readers become fluent. When you know these words automatically, you can focus on understanding the story instead of stopping to sound out every word.

Examples in Sentences:
  • I was happy to see you.
  • She said it is time to go.
  • We went to the park.
  • This is one of my books.
Note

When you practice sight words, read them in sentences. This helps you remember how they look and how they are used.

Practicing sight words

To learn sight words, use many ways to practice: read them, write them, and say them out loud. Repetition helps them become automatic.

Practice Ideas:
  • Flashcards with sight words
  • Reading short stories with sight words
  • Writing the words in a notebook
  • Playing word matching games
Note

Try practicing a few sight words every day. Review old ones while learning new ones.

Using sight words in writing

When you know sight words, you can use them in your own writing. This makes your sentences easier to read and understand.

Examples:
  • I like to play at the park.
  • We said we would go home.
  • The dog was very small.
  • One of my friends is here.
Note

After reading a story, try writing two or three sentences using some of the sight words you practiced.
